Another big holiday movie weekend with Bad Santa 2, Rules Don’t Apply, and Moana. Bad Santa 2 is a pale imitation of the first, but at least we get more Thurman Merman. Rules Don’t Apply is overstuffed and too long, but it’s great seeing Warren Beatty play crazy Howard Hughes. The best of the week is Disney’s Moana. Adam has a problem choosing between it and Kubo. Lin-Manuel Miranda, David Bowie, and Jermaine Clement.
It’s boxing and magical beasts as we review real-life comeback boxing story Bleed for This and Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Did it have to be Miles Tellar? Aaron Eckhart is great, though. If you like Harry Potter and old silent films, you’ll really like this, otherwise. . .
What a week, and a movie to go with it. Arrival is one of those movies where the less you know, the better it is, so we keep spoilers and plot to a minimum. But aliens show up, we have to communicate with them, so we get Amy Adams to do it. We both loved it, with Adam at a 10, and Andy at a 9.5.
Marvel gives us its 14th movie, and it is spectacular. The visuals are like nothing you’ve seen before, and the performances are phenomenal. Go see this in IMAX 3D. The Asian whitewashing controversy. We both like this a lot.
